Caitlin's Cause was founded in 2002 in memory of Caitlin Marie Tretter, who was born on April 16, 1993 and was called back to heaven on April 17, 1999. Caitlin battled a brain tumor for three brave years, and eventually died from a brain hemorrhage that was a direct result of her tumor. Everyone who met her knew how special she was, since no matter how bad she felt, or whatever treatment she was going through, she always made you smile. Matt Tretter, Caitlin's father, decided that he needed to do something to honor her life and her incredible spirit, and so Caitlin's Cause was born.

The main fundraising event is an annual party held around the end of July. At first, the event was held in Matt's backyard, but soon outgrew that venue as it now attracts about 300 friends and family. The event is comprised of a raffle, silent (written) auction, verbal auction, buy-a-square, and guessing the number of pennies or skittles in a jar. There are children's games, face painting, and entertainment (usually a magician and an incredible reptile show). There is no charge to attend, and drinks and food are offered to anyone who attends. Caitlin's Cause is successful due to the great generosity of friends and family who donate many items for auction, and to the attainment of many signed items by celebrities, athletes and coaches.

Thank you for your interest in Caitlin's Cause. Together, we can make a difference to those families that have children fighting this horrible sickness.
